Happy 250th Birthday, America! From Our Family at Everett's Place to Yours
Two hundred and fifty years. Today isn't just another 4th of July — it's America's Semiquincentennial, a milestone birthday that only comes around once in many lifetimes. On July 4, 1776, a handful of families took a leap of faith on an idea bigger than themselves. Today, 250 years later, we're celebrating that same spirit right here in Cañon City, Colorado — with sparklers, watermelon, and a whole lot of gratitude.
A Milestone Worth Slowing Down For
Think about it: the babies celebrating their very first 4th of July today will tell their grandchildren they were there for America's 250th. That's the kind of moment worth putting the phone down for. Whether your family's traditions involve a small-town parade, burgers on the grill, or just a blanket in the backyard waiting for fireworks, today is one of those days that stitches itself into a family's memory.
Here in Cañon City, we're lucky — mountain views, warm summer evenings, and neighbors who still wave from their porches. It's the kind of place that reminds us what this holiday is really about: family, freedom, and the little moments in between.
Celebrating the 4th of July With a Baby? A Few Gentle Tips
- Protect those tiny ears. Fireworks are loud for grown-ups — for babies, they can be overwhelming. Baby ear protection (or simply watching from a distance, or from inside a car) keeps the magic without the tears.
- Dress for the weather, naturally. Summer evenings can swing from hot to chilly fast, especially here in Colorado. Breathable, organic cotton layers keep little bodies comfortable from the afternoon cookout to the last firework.
- Sunscreen, shade, and hydration. The holiday fun usually starts hours before the fireworks do. A sun hat and plenty of breaks in the shade make for a much happier baby (and a much happier bedtime).
- Keep bedtime flexible — and forgive yourself. One late night won't undo your routine. Some memories are worth a sleepy morning after.
250 Years of Families Taking the Leap
We can't help but see a little of ourselves in this holiday. Every generation of American families has taken its own leap of faith — starting farms, starting businesses, starting families. Everett's Place is our leap: a small, family-run boutique built on the belief that the littlest Americans deserve the gentlest start, with organic, thoughtfully made essentials we'd want for our own children.
So today, as the flags wave and the grills fire up, we just want to say thank you. Thank you for supporting a small family business. Thank you for letting us be a tiny part of your family's story. And thank you to every parent raising the next generation of dreamers, builders, and leap-takers — the ones who'll be here to celebrate America's 300th.
